Liberia: Communist Party of China (CPC) makes first visit to Africa

A six-man Chinese Government delegation to Liberia said it was in the country to learn from its Liberian counterpart and hailed the Government of Liberia for the good relations existing between the two countries.

According to a release, members of the delegation include Mr. Huang Xianyao, Head and member of the Standing Committee and Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission; Mr. Wang Hening, Deputy Director for International Department; Mr. Liu Yanfu, Director IDCPCCC; Mr. Xiong Zuofu, Deputy Director IDCPCCC; Ms. Zhan Yanhong, Third Secretary, IDCPCCC and Mr. Peng Yonjia, Third Secretary/Interpreter, among others.

The delegation was led to the office of Vice President Joseph Boakai at the Capitol by the Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, Zhao Jianhua.

At the press conference in the Senate Conference Hall on Monday 13th May, Mr. Huang said, since the Communist Party of China (CPC) government came to power, this was their first visit to Africa, with Liberia being the first country on the continent.

Mr. Huang said the people of China are grateful to Liberia for the international affairs that the two counties are running, saying “The people of Africa are friends to China and Liberia is also our good friend.”

In response, Vice President Joseph Boakai said Liberia will always protect the good friendship with China. On behalf of the Liberia people, I will like to congratulate the Government of China for the friendship”, he said. He added that Liberia is committed to the strong relationship not only at party level, but for Liberian students and people living in China.

On behalf of President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, he extended admiration to the Chinese government, and hoped that Liberia-China relationship would continue to grow between their two Presidents.
